About the Project

The EU Civil Society Facility for Central Asia project strengthens the role and capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Building on the annual EU–Central Asia Civil Society Forum, the Facility enhances participation in regional dialogue, supports structured cooperation, and connects civil society, including youth, with policymakers, and development partners.

Launched in 2024, the four-year project promotes inclusive engagement on priority topics such as governance, climate and environment, digital transformation, gender equality, and human rights—ensuring that civil society remains a vital partner in shaping a resilient and sustainable future for the region.

This project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17 on partnerships, as it aims to connect local CSOs with European partners, fostering regional stability and contributing to sustainable development in Central Asia. Synergies and complementarity shall be built with existing EU Civil Society Facilities, as well as the Global Gateway Flagship initiatives, in cooperation with CSO Focal Points based in the respective EU Delegations in Central Asia, and other UN Organizations.

Our Priorities

Supporting CSOs to engage in continuous and structured dialogue with policymakers, share evidence-based recommendations, and contribute to regional decision-making processes.

Establishing and coordinating Youth Sounding Boards (YSBs) in all five countries to bring youth expertise into national and regional policy discussions.

Facilitating Thematic Working Groups (TWGs), cross-border exchanges, and the annual EU–Central Asia Civil Society Forum to promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

In partnership with the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), delivering tailored training, tools, and support to improve internal governance, financial management, policy analysis, leadership, and project development among CSOs and youth representatives.

Launching the Small Grants Facility to finance community-driven initiatives that advance the region’s development priorities and reflect the thematic focus areas of the Facility.
